Jamie Thompson

Pastor Jamie, Andrea, Payton, Ethan, Mason, and Tyson

Pastor Jamie Thompson and his wife Andrea both grew up in poor, urban communities of Chicago. It was common to see drug dealing, prostitution, gang activity and violence when they stepped outside their front doors every day. Jamie received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in his senior year of high school. As many people work to move out of the broken community they grew up in, the Lord began to grow a passion in Jamie to go back to a poor urban community.  While attending college, he started and directed a sports ministry to gang members for eight years in his local church. He also served in his church youth ministry for four years.

In 2001 Jamie married his beautiful wife and partner in life and ministry Andrea Thompson. Family is very important to both of them and is their most important responsibility in life. They are blessed to raise four little men - Payton, Ethan, Mason and Tyson. Jamie received his training at Moody Bible Institute, graduating in 2003. He then began serving on staff at Armitage Baptist Church - overseeing the urban internship program and short term mission groups. Jamie was ordained as one of the pastors of Armitage Baptist Church and served there for three years. During that time Jamie and his wife felt called to go back to an urban community to plant a church. They moved into the Garfield Park community, located on the west side of Chicago in 2005, and began serving and reaching people.

In 2006, after the housing market crashed, the Garfield Park community was left in a more depressed state then it was in already. The community was getting more depressed and the financial needs to do ministry continued to increase. Jamie was led by the Lord to do something about the problem. Through much prayer and leading of God, Jamie and his brother-in-law started a business that would build up the Garfield Park Community and help provide ministry support. So Jamie and his brother-in-law started Pinea Properties - a business that provides healthy and safe apartments for community members. Through Pinea Properties they bought, renovated, and managed 25 buildings providing 77 homes for community residents.

Reborn Community Church was incorporated in 2012 and began growing as God transformed the lives of people. The vision of reborn is to build a church that is an outreach center and equipping center for Jesus. It is our goal to be a church on mission for Jesus by remaining intentional about evangelism and discipleship and being committed to train up future urban pastors and missionaries to plant self-sustaining urban churches that are transforming people through the power of the gospel. In December of 2015, God provided the funds to purchase the building that Jamie and his leadership team had been praying over for four years. They are now renovating this building to be the outreach and equipping center they envisioned. Jamie and his family have planted deep roots in their community and continue to live and serve at Reborn Community Church. They are excited to be part of all that the Lord is doing at Reborn and are excited to help equip others to be prepared to plant churches that flourish in other urban communities.
